3 days after visiting Florida's high point I was in Saint Louis and a
check of the map showed me that I was only about 2 hours from Missouri's
high point Taum Sauk. I wasn't sure it would be open because a reservoir
on an adjacent hill top had broken its dam a couple of day before but a
quick check of the parks web site showed it was open. This high point is
another drive up much like Florida. From the parking lot it is about a
half a mile to the marker. Again this high point didn't seem like the top
of a hill or mountain but hey its where the marker was so it must be
right. Back down the road there was a watch tower that I went back to and
climbed as high as I could but the observation deck was closed. |
