Bonaire

Today we headed North up the coast to a site recommended to us by other divers at Buddy's. Our first dive was at Karpata. I again did not bring my camera so the shots of Karpata are from Dan's Camera. Karpata has a short hike down about 15-20 steps to an easy entry. I had not been deeper than 95' prior to this dive and had also not felt Narced yet, Dan on the other hand had been that deep several times and has yet to Narc. I wanted to experience a deep dive so we dropped over the edge and down a sand chute to 130' stopping every 5-10' so I could take stock of how I felt. we got to 130 and just as we leveled out I got a tingly feeling in my face we stayed for just a minute or two and then started up slowly and by 120' I felt normal we worked our way back up to about 50' and swam North in to the current and then let it carry us pack to the buoy. I was really happy with my air consumption on this dive even though we bounced to 130' I still got a 46 minute dive and had 1200 psi when we exited. we had a lunch of a burger at the shack next to the stairs at Karpata, what this burger was made of we aren't sure but it hit the spot.

Dive 2 today was at a site way up the coast off the paved roads. Nukove is almost as remote as it gets on Bonaire. as we drove to Nukove it began to rain but he clouds were puffy and spotty so we figured it was just a squall and would clear soon so we kept going we got there and waited the storm out and sure enough after less than 40 minutes the sun came out and the surf flattened right out and the ocean was as smooth as glass. we had the site to our selves so we first figured how to climb down to the rock and rubble beach, then geared up and walked to the water. the entry is tricky as we found no clear path out thru the coral heads and rocks. I don't know why but almost from the moment we entered the water here I had an uneasy feeling. Nothing was wrong with me or my gear but the place just felt...I don't know, I guess Spooky would best describe how it felt. we continued north along the reef at about 40' and had a nice dive even though the spooky feeling never left me. we picked our way in thru the coral heads. I prefer to bring up the rear so I can keep track of my buddy easier, Dan as usual did an excellent job of navigating and bringing us back to our entry point. So as I was picking my way face down thru the last few coral heads I came to Dan  sitting on a ledge taking off his fins and I am just a foot or so down. I see Dan's hand under water pointing to my left, and when I looked left I got the full frontal view of a couple coupling, HELLO! Now that's what I call marine biology! and to top it off they didn't care we were there and their friends were filming them too LOL. Again my air consumption was great a 59 minute dive!

Lots of little fish on a coral, the little yellow guy in the center is most likely a Juvenile Threespot Damselfish

Tonight we made our second night dive and met Charlie the Tarpon and his gang. They swim up beside you in the dark and then use the dive lights to hunt by, They are about 3-4 feet long

The Tarpon stay very close, you can almost touch them but they seem to have eyes in the back of their head

The Hunting was good tonight this guy has just had a snack
