Why drive to Alaska?

I remember not long after I got my drivers license I spent hours pouring over maps of the country, planning a grand tour of America. Even then I seemed drawn to the more remote and rugged places. Ever since then I have wanted to drive to Alaska, I have always loved to Drive and by the other areas on my site you can see that I have been to many places in America but I still long to see the last frontier of America, Alaska. For some unexplainable reason I like to drive to the end of the road just to see what's there. I have done this many times but there is one road that is for me truly the end of the road. That road is the Dalton Highway which begins north of Fairbanks and ends in Dead Horse just a few miles from the bearing sea and well above the Artic Circle. Dead Horse is not a destination so to speak it is more or a reference point, my trip is not about getting somewhere its about discovering new places, meeting people and seeing the sites along the way. Also Dead Horse is not an end it is more like the mid point, it is simply the farthest point north and a place where I have no choice but to turn around and head back (unless I can get a ferry to Siberia and keep driving, and when I find out how I just might try it) but for now Dead Horse means I have to turn around and head back and find more new places to see. My trip home will be even more varied than the trip out.

Well I wanted to be on my way over two weeks ago but not having been at home for a significant amount of time in over three years there were many things that needed looking after before I could get away. Most of those things are done. Unfortunately I let all the stuff at home take up all of my time and did not spend as much time with friends as I wanted to, I am really angry with my self for letting this happen as spending more time with my friends was something I had promised my self I would do. Getting my truck ready has been more work than I had anticipated. I am kind of going over board with trying to be prepared for any emergency but if I don't I will wish I had, see more of my truck HERE. I have altered my route some as I am attending a wedding in Reno on June 6th. this is a great chance to catch up with all my friends in the area as well as a motivator to get going as I am beginning to feel like I will never get out of here if I don't make my self go. I am going to get on the road on June first but it might end up being the second or third.
