Laird Hot Springs to Dawson creek

I made it down to the Laird hot springs last night as I thought it would be nice to start my day soaking in the 48C  water (that's 118 Fahrenheit). I spent almost two hours enjoying the springs. I had planned to grab a shower at the camp ground next to the springs but the wait was over 2 hours so I toweled off and changed before hitting the road.

Today's Map

Why did the bear cross the road??? Hell if I know but almost as soon as I got on the road I came across this black bear crossing it. He was not bothered by the cars as he took a nice leisurely stroll across the road. I didn't stop and ask him why he was crossing.

Above and below is Muncho lake. That water is soooo clear and smooth not to mention COLD! and deep. In some spots just a few feet off shore the lake is over 300 feet deep. Oh ya there aren't any guard rails either, it makes for a somewhat nervous ride.

I came across this large group of Stone sheep near the south end of Muncho lake. They are licking the salt off of the road and were not bothered by the cars at all. After I weaved my way through them I pulled to the side and walked back to the sheep to get some close-up shots. I  probably spent close to an hour watching and photographing them. A few even came up to within 10 feet or so to check me out. I there hadn't been so may idiots honking at the sheep it would have been a perfect way to spend the afternoon.

This picture with the rig in it helps give a sense of scale to the landscape. The rig bumper to bumper is a little over 100' long.

If I remember right, this rock formation is called a hoodoo and if you take some of the foot trails in the area you can see many more of them than are visible from the road. They are just south of Muncho Lake.

Another black bear enjoying a very big berry patch, the berries were so ripe I could smell them from the road

No Sasquatch sightings on this trip, maybe next time

Back in Dawson Creek at mile Zero of the Alaska Highway, but I still have over 700 miles to get back to the US border near Vancouver.

Sunset just out side of Dawson Creek. and the end of my adventure on the Alcan. I know I will be back again.
I really want to have some quality time in the Red Woods so I continued south out of Dawson Creek but it got very dark very fast and a long day of driving caught up to me in a couple of hours so I found a road side pullout and had to take an impromptu shower beside the car with bottled water as the minerals from the springs this morning were making my skin very itchey. So there I was a long way from anywhere in pitch black which I haven't seen in more than a month, covered in cold soapy suds and I hear a pack of Coyotes very close start calling and yipping , Had this been wolves I would not have worried a bit, but coyotes are bold rambunctious animals with no common sense which makes them dangerous, especially when they are in a pack, so I quickly rinsed off and jumped in my truck until I found a quieter spot to sleep.
