Banff and Jasper

I stopped briefly in Banff but it was way to touristy for me so I continued up to Lake Louise I had hoped to get a picture of the famous chalet in Lake Louise but you have to be a guest to get where you can get a good shot. I did get a can of bug spray with deet. The really funny thing is so far I hadn't been bothered by one bug but the next time I got out of the car they were all over me. I wasn't using the stuff yet but I think the bugs knew I had it and were out to get me LOL.

Driving up hwy 93 (the Icefields Parkway) was amazing. dramatic mountains like Glacier park but it went on for hours. I stopped and ate dinner at the top of the pass where Banff park ends and Jasper begins at 10pm while watching the sunset. I was hoping to make it to a camp ground in Jasper for the night and I almost gave up because the Elk were so thick the last 30 min or so and it was getting very dark. I made it to the campground. When I checked in the girl at the booth warned me that there had been 3 black bears in camp and many elk that are calving (which makes them very dangerous). I parked and headed for the showers, Now it's pitch dark but I can see the shower house from my camp site and I have this really good sense of direction, and I had just driven past the place so I set out down the road (avoiding the woods incase of elk or bear) and you guessed it. I got lost bigger than... well lets just say I was lost! in the pitch black  with no flash light, I could see the place right? I didn't need a flash light? well I found my way back and guess how I found my way back. it is soooooo city! I beeped my car alarm. not once but twice at 12:30 am. I am sure everyone in camp loved me. I got my bearings and a flash light, a shower and went to bed. Little did I know that this was the last night I would have darkness for weeks to come.

I took the picture above and the one below while parked in the middle of the road on a narrow steep up hill grade. Crazy you say? Nope I was the only car on the road, plus I could see the road behind me for 5-10 miles. I love lonely roads like this.
