Yellowstone National Park

I headed north from Grand Teton National park towards Yellowstone. My original plan was to just zip through as I had been there before but once I got in to the park I realized that was just not possible I kept seeing things that I wanted to stop and check out. Just south of the park entrance there was some road construction and traffic was almost stopped in some heavy woods, moving about 10mph. I just happened to glance off to my left and saw a huge moose right beside the road but didn't get a chance to take a picture of him. When I got to the park entrance the ranger at the gate said that there was about to be a mandatory meeting of all rangers in the station there and they weren't collecting fees and to stop on the way out and pay, I had managed to get in to Teton twice with out paying so, so far I was getting off easy. It really didn't matter because I buy an annual parks pass every year so I would just be paying once.

I didn't get to far in to Yellowstone when the early morning start caught up with me so I took a nap in a visitor area parking lot. I got back up about noon and proceeded north up the west side of the park. not far north of Old Faithful there were allot of people pulled over so I stopped to see what was going on. There in a field was a small bear, I got out my big lens again and got a pretty good look at it. I think it was a Brown Bear/Grizzly cub because soon after I noticed a much larger bear hanging back in the trees that most other people couldn't see. I started talking to a couple of rangers that came by and they said that it was a Black bear, I still don't agree with them but oh well. Next I came upon a good size heard of Bison with some really stupid people driving among them as they crossed the road and some really dumb ones got out of there cars within 20 feet of a bull Bison with sizeable horns to pose for pictures.

On the way north I spotted a nice group of bull Elk a good distance off on my way to Mammoth springs. beyond Mammoth springs I spotted a nice sized bull Elk right by the road and got some beautiful shots of him. As I left the park I tried to buy my parks pass but they were to busy with incoming traffic so they said buy it next time. I headed to Livingston and then stopped in Bozo (Bozeman) for dinner and spent the night in Butte at the Flying J truck stop.
